I'm not sure how actively anyone reads this forum (as it looks like it hasn't been posted on in some time!), but I had a question regarding my own family history.
Catharine (Kittie) Horton and her little brother Joseph were born in Boston in the early 1860's. They were sent to Bay City on the Orphan Train in 1866.
According to the information I have, Joseph was adopted by "Judge Campbell" as part of the family, and Kittie was taken in first by the "Westover family", who used her as some kind of an indentured servant (the type of servitude isn't mentioned specifically, although from what I've read, the "orphans" brought out west were often used as farm hands) , then later lived with the Huff family (whose son she married, so I know a bit more about them!)
In searching for both "Westover" and "Judge Campbell" in relation to Bay City, I was brought to the Bay Journal, so I thought this might be a good place to ask for help.
There don't seem to be records that I can find online that help me with this, so my questions are - 1.) Is it likely that "Judge Campbell" is Judge Sydney Campbell? The timelines of his life and their move out west line up, but I haven't found any mention of Joseph in the information I've found about him.
2.) Would the Westovers be the family behind the Westover Building?
If there is somewhere else I could be looking for more information, please let me know! Thanks.
